Keynote Abstract: Opportunities for using modelling in healthcare policy & management Nigel
Edwards Tbc... Speaker’s biography: Nigel is Director of Policy for the NHS Confederation, the membership organisation that represents over 93% of NHS organisations in the UK. His role is to influence health policy on behalf of members, develop the Confederation’s policy positions on areas of key interest to members and to speak on behalf of NHS organisations, particularly in the media. He is a Director of the Confederation’s Future Healthcare Network which supports organisations involved in the largest healthcare building programme for one hundred years. Previously, Nigel was Director of the London Health Economics Consortium at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, which undertook a number of high profile strategic consultancies for the NHS, the World Bank, and the Department for International Development. He is an Honorary Visiting Professor at the LSHTM. Nigel was recently identified by the Health Service Journal as one of the top 50 people who influence NHS policy; they wrote: “Not every influential person [in this list] is a figurehead; some, like Nigel Edwards, have established themselves through the sheer quality of their contribution to debate. Mr Edwards’ job is to establish the organisation’s position on NHS policy in relation to members’ best interests — as such, his ideas bear considerable weight…. An infectiously enthusiastic conference speaker, [his] intellectual curiosity is a huge service to the NHS.”
