ACQUIRING THE SKILLS EMPLOYERS WANT
Develop Skills for the Workplace
Make the most of your time while in higher education to identify your
existing skills and develop new skills for the workplace. You can do this
through your course, through paid and voluntary
work, placements and other activities in which you may be involved.
When recruiting graduates, employers are looking for personal transferable
skills in addition to academic/technical skills. You just need to look
at recruitment literature including that in the careers information room
and on line, application forms and attend interviews to learn the importance
of these skills.
What are personal transferable skills and how are they developed?
- Non-specialist or non-technical skills
- Developed in a wide range of activities
- "Core skills" required by employers for all types of occupations
- transferable from one type of situation to another
