Applications
An application or an application package, is a program or suite
of programs designed to perform a specific type of work (e.g. compose
a letter, handle the payroll, draw a picture,
play a game). The application may contain a number of functions in
field of application, and individual users can select the functions
they require and vary their input and output
requirements by using parameters.

For example in a word processing application one user can write
a letter, another can write an essay, a third can write a book.
